Happy half of 2015!
Been a busy month with loads of warm weather. Had to push through the first few days where temperature rose above 30 degrees Celsius. After those initial hot days summer in jeans wasn’t that bad anymore. This month I survived tons of spilled drinks and got these jeans very dusty when cleaning a storage room. (Actually used a broom to clean them off which miraculously worked quite well) Thinking about pushing the second soak another month since I got two festivals/ camping holidays lined up at the end of august (Lowlands & Outlook) and nobody complained about any funk (long live the Dettol) : D
So 1200hrs of wear, 89 of the 91 days so far. With one soak, no washes, no repairs…July 31, 2015 at 2:35 pm #5315

So, unexpectedly I had to move into a new home. While moving in 30 degree weather things just got unbearable. It wasn’t as much the smell but just the huge discomfort the fatty, greasy denim gave especially when it got a little bit moist. I don’t know if any of you ever had the pleasure of working with old Army tents, well the fabric felt exactly the same.
I figured it wouldn’t be joyfull to keep wearing these especially with the upcoming festivals. And since it was one of the last days I had access to a bathtub I decided to soak them while moving. So all and all I left them to soak for about 6 hours. 2 hours intial hot soak to get rid of the extreme dirt. This resulted in some dirty denim tea. After that I soaked them again for 2 hours and after that I gave them the final Dettol soak, which also lasted about two hours.
Definitly got some more contrast and a lot of fabric inregularities due to wearing are starting to show. Will do a macro shot session when I’m settled. Here are some before and after pics, my new home doesn’t allow for the same Sunlight from above setting I used in the pre-shots so the lighting is a bit different. Sure got the wearing pleasure back, they feel like a really nice pair of jeans right now, so I’m loving it. Fun Freak Fact: When wearing some shorts and looking at my jeans hanging to dry, I honestly missed wearing them. Guess that whats 3 months of (almost) straight wear do to a person…August 18, 2015 at 9:16 pm #5604
Noticed some loose thread in the crotch a few days ago and had some time to try and fix it.. (not too much time to take some clear pictures, sorry about that..) So opened up my grandma’s old sewing box and amazingly almost all colors thread in the color spectrum were available except for a simple navy. I choose Petrol, I like petrol 😀August 26, 2015 at 2:45 pm #5654

1600 hrs in. Last weekend I survived the first 4-day festival. Lowlands, which is one of the biggest festivals in the Netherlands. While we got blessed with an amazing weather window in between rainy days with temps reaching up to 27 degrees it wasn’t as bad as I expected to mash out to artists like Mark Ronson, Diplo, SBTRKT, and the ever sweaty vibes they play in the very sexily crowded X-Ray tent (for those of you who are familiar with the festival.) The only thing that got really hot was the mood with all the beautiful & scarcely clothed people shaking their goodies to the beat, wilding out in front of the stage will get you sweating anyway no matter what you are wearing.

Drinking beers and meeting people till 6AM only to continue chilling out in the hot sun after 4hrs of sleep, to repeat the entire process day after day. Getting in my tent late at night to tired to take anything off and waking up next morning with my same clothes on happened to me more than once :-s Without the expected rain things got a little dusty so at the end of day three a nice sandy brownish glow colored my pants, but after two days of normal wear back home most of this already disappeared. Now getting ready for the real trip. Outlook festival, in and abandoned Roman fort on the beautiful shore of Croatia. I’ll be leaving friday night and take a midway stop in Munich for some beers and see how it goes from there. This trip I’ll bring the camera to catch some of the action for you…
September 22, 2015 at 12:09 pm #5892
Ow (insert 4 letter vulgarity here) what a month, I think I became 32 weeks older this month alone. The festival in Croatia was incredible, the road trip there with stops in Munich and Ljubljana (incredible city, if you get the chance go visit!) was amazing. I promised some pictures but in the end it was me holding the camera if I wasn’t way too busy doing other stuff. Unfortunately all pictures shot by friends with camera phones don’t show any detail so probably not worth uploading.
On topic, I passed the 2000hr mark a few days ago. So far I have not worn this jeans for 3 days, since the beginning of this contest. As you can see in the shots these jeans are taking a hygienic beating. At one point during a Jurassic 5 performance someone slipped a drink into my pocket. The thick fabric of the pockets just contained the liquid like a glass, so I needed to turn the pocket inside out to get rid of the drink. It also happened that I wore these for almost 2 days (44 hrs) straight. Going to the festival until we were the last to leave, proceeding the dancing at the 24hr bar on the beach with the sun rising, coming back to the tent to decide to go to the city for some errands before sleeping, which turned out in a completely unplanned seaside chilling before heading straight back to the festival. Sitting in 30 degree weather on a beautiful cliff made it hard for me not to jump into the sea with my jeans on. But as I only packed 1 pair of pants and I needed to wear them that night I decide to not give them an Ocean Cliff dive wash..
Back home, hanging them next to a open window at nighttime has removed most of the smell, but with all the stains it could need a wash or soak. I guess me typing that has become the red line through this entire thread, so it would come to no surprise that I’ll be pushing the wash forward until it gets unbearable 😀 In other good news, things are going great and I’m super busy, got a nice trip to Budapest next week, and will be visiting Bellfast at the beginning of December..
Thanks!October 26, 2015 at 5:58 pm #6122
Autumn! And by the looks of the picture the color of my jeans shifted as well 😀 Had a busy month and started a new project that revolves about escape rooms, so we went to Budapest and played 13 rooms in 1,5 day. Furthermore, when the sun goes down quickly the parties last longer in the AM, long working weekdays and even longer days in the weekend. 🙂
Next week I’ll do a machine wash and get Jesper from Tulp to reinforce the crotch that starts to show signs of the 2500 hours of abuse. When that is all done I’ll post a light setting sequence to give you all a better idea of the true color of the jeans..November 9, 2015 at 3:15 pm #6237
Allright, the first quarter had passed. My update comes a little later due to the fact I didn’t had my jeans for a week. Late October some serious defects came showing through in the crotch area and I contacted Jesper from Tulp for a repair. But before I could ask him to do any stitching I ran a wash cycle, because the last rinse my jeans got was almost 3 months and a lot of sweating, spilling and working ago. So I ran a 40 degree washing cycle with some white detergent (I actually don’t like dark jeans :-p) and added some Dettol in the fabric softener compartment for that endurance fresh smell.
On monday the 2nd of November we scheduled a quick fix, but upon arrival in Jesper’s sowing room he immediately noticed that this couldn’t be a quick fix as he needed to take apart the entire crotch to reinforce it again. As his and my time didn’t allow it to be done quicker it took until saturday before I could put on my beloved jeans again. First time since may I went longer than 2 days without wearing these jeans, but it was definitely worth it. I am surely no expert on jeans repairs but know from past repairs, usually jeans get patched up with some other fabric. Jesper approached it differently and just add a ton of stitching. He also spotted some other critical area’s that could use some reinforcement and repaired everything under the life-time repair service that he offers with his jeans…
*Last picture is a reinforcement of the left front pocket where I always keep my pocket knife.
Than as promised I took a sequence of pictures all on different backgrounds and light settings but all on the same day. I took these pictures today after 2 nights of bar tending so the first stains are already present 😀
And a little instagram love from Jesper to show off..March 2, 2017 at 12:37 pm #7199
after the hiatus…
a lot has happened, I lost 13kg, so these are getting really roomy. Currently deliberating creating custom model with Jesper from Tulp for next year because as you can see these things are pretty beat up…
I’ll post all the details in the final post and when I have the actual wash/repair/wear data present. Notice the 507? It’s not the 507th day of wear, but the 507th daily picture I took (anyone feel a timelapse coming?) I have and am still wearing this jeans every single day,.. unless it’s in for repair which in last months is quite often..May 1, 2017 at 2:26 pm #7413
I am looking forward to a time lapse, especially considering the sheer amount of destruction that occurred!
They look great!
